Citizenship

While Citizenship is not a statutory part of our curriculum at Beoley First School we recognise that we are laying the vital foundations for this subject area when it does become statutory at Key Stages 3 and 4. Our Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) curriculum plays a pivotal role in nurturing the development of responsible and active citizens. By focusing on the holistic growth of our students, PSHE provides a foundation upon which citizenship education can flourish.

Through PSHE, students learn about their rights and responsibilities within the school community and wider society. They explore concepts such as respect, empathy, and tolerance, essential qualities for effective citizenship. Discussions on diversity, equality, and inclusion foster an understanding of the value of every individual and promote social cohesion.

Moreover, PSHE equips students with essential life skills, including critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving, which are vital for active participation in democratic processes. By engaging in activities that promote teamwork, communication, and leadership, students develop the confidence and competence to contribute positively to their communities.

Furthermore, PSHE addresses issues such as democracy, justice, and human rights, providing students with an understanding of the principles that underpin a democratic society. They learn about the importance of respecting different viewpoints, resolving conflicts peacefully, and advocating for positive change.

By integrating PSHE into our curriculum, Beoley First School ensures that students not only excel academically but also grow into compassionate, responsible, and informed citizens who actively contribute to the betterment of their communities and the wider world.
