Our Year 2 curriculum is designed to nurture children who are kind, inquisitive, resilient, hard-working, creative and ambitious, ensuring they develop both strong foundations for learning and the personal qualities to thrive in the wider world. Through a carefully sequenced and inspiring range of topics, pupils explore meaningful ideas—from habitats, plant growth and materials in Science to the history of flight, school in the past, and the role of monarchs.
Across the year, children are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, investigate the world around them and make connections between their learning. Whether comparing hot and cold places, exploring coastal environments, creating expressive artwork, developing digital skills, or designing moving mechanisms and balanced wraps, pupils learn through hands-on, purposeful experiences that spark curiosity and celebrate creativity.
Our curriculum promotes resilience and ambition by offering challenge within a supportive environment, where every child feels valued and motivated to do their best. Daily opportunities in PE, music, computing and the wider curriculum help children develop independence, teamwork and confidence. Through PSHE and RE, pupils deepen their understanding of themselves and others, learning how to show kindness, respect and responsibility in their community.
By the end of Year 2, our aim is for every child to leave with a love of learning, a strong sense of self, and the knowledge and skills needed to take on new challenges with enthusiasm, creativity and determination.
